# Markers

Marker preset. Defaults depend on the role: plain point → `pin`, route start → `ring`, route finish → `flag`.

Set a preset with `marker:<shape>` inside `poi=`, `frommarker`/`tomarker` for routes, or `marker.shape` in the JSON body. Colors, sizes and outlines can be overridden per marker.

Route start and finish markers take the basemap theme's label color instead of the color above (see [Presets](/docs/reference/presets.md#text-defaults)).
